I update Japanese file.

And, this is a just report, not problem.
Same character duplicated in table.
1A C8 : 記
1B A1 : 記
Both are effective on game.
Hyne always uses "1A C8 : 記".
If "1B A1 : 記" is exist in save, Hyne changes to "1A C8 : 記".

Thank you for your modifying. It works greatly.
Hyne is a first FF8 save editor that can use Japanese ideograms.
It is a epoch.
 
I had done some mistranslation and typos in Japanese file.
Fortunately, mistranslation strings are not used in current Hyne.
And typos doesn't make serious problem.
But, I corrected them. Please use this for next update.

The next version can edit many more things (72% editable).

Current changelog:

  • New sub-section! Magazines (Weapons and Timber Maniacs)
  • New section! Shops
  • New section! Draw Points
  • New section! Battle (Stats + Magic known + Enemy Scanned Once)
  • Some display improvements

If we take into account that ~702 bytes are unused in the savemap, Hyne 1.6 can then edit 84% of the savemap.
 
Hi myst6re, just wanted to say thank you for your hard work, this is by far the most complete savegame editor out there so please keep it up. ;)
Btw do you have plans to finish the chocobo world editor? im looking forward to it, can you tell me what value should i hex edit for the level or weapons?

I'll add some values​to be edited in version 1.6 (level, weapons, hps, id...), but I do not know much about the 64 bytes available.
 
That'll do, i'll keep checking in for the next update.  ;D

Edit: I almost forgot, i have a request (if possible of course) any chances you can add some sort of button on the magic tab to delete all magics, because it happened to me that i had to many magic spells (weak ones) so i didnt have space to store more magic spells (stronger ones) and it was kinda annoying going through each magic, selecting "-" as if none. If is not possible i'll just have to stick with the ol' fashion choose & delete. xD

Player list based on Japanese FF8 Ultimania. I don't know what they are called in English version.

But there are no card player. not used in game.

Okay okay, I should explain how to do your research. Firstly, CHOCORPG is compressed, in LZS. Secondly, it's not necessary to understand all the bytes for saves, just the bytes between 2 and 66 (64 bytes):

To compress/uncompress CHOCORPG, you can use ficeLZS (http://mirror.mypage.sk/ficedula/php/programs3a9a.html). It's a command-line tool.

First of all, than you for this program, just what I was looking for! This is a wonderful editor and I'm looking forward to the future releases. Keep up the good work! =)

However I have one (hopefully) small request for the upcoming releases (I'm using 1.5.1 atm). I noticed that when you add new abilities to your GF's, they are always automatically 'Completed!' and cannot be edited otherwise like the abilities the GF already knows/can learn.
Would it be possible to have an option to edit the AP of these added abilities too so that they can be learned while playing the game? For me it's fun to have my perfect abilities list waiting while having to see a little effort to achieve them, haha.

Anyways, thank you in advance!

Sorry, this is not possible, everything can be done for gf abilities is already editable with Hyne, we can not do more because FF8 does not allow it.

Sorry about this very basic question, but I want to backup my save files before using the editor and I can't even find them!!!  They're not in the save folder in FF8 main folder...  Don't know where the hell they are, but when I open FF8 I do see them and can open them.  Anyone can help me plz?  I'm using Windows 7.  Really sorry if this was answered before, I couldn't find it!

Look in "C:\Users\YOUR_NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\FF8_PATH\Save" folder.
 
The OSX version doesn't work for me, I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Anyone else having problems? Or (even better) solutions?
