Questions; including "WHAT IS THE REMAKE PROJECT?" and more

First of all, I come to the Qhimm page often, but rarely visit the message boards.  What exactly IS the FF7 remake project?  It makes it sound like Qhimm is doing it, and not squaresoft.  Is this true (It's just an assumption on my part.  I just heard Qhimm say something about contributing to it, and it confused me!)?  I would like to hear more about it (everyone probably does, tho)!
Also, I have noticed that Qhimm hasn't updated the site for a couple months, and that further convinced me that perhaps he is working on the FF7 remake. (Note again, this isn't a rumor, just a very confused person! Please set me straight, as this is the purpose of my posting.)  Is Qhimm still working on his little trainers and programs for Final Fantasy?
Another thing:  I don't know, but I hope and pray not only that Square will release FF9 for the pc eventually, but if these remake rumors I hear are true, that THEY will be for the PC too!  Will FF10 be PC?  I heard 11 will.  What's the buzz, as this would be the best place (in my opinion) to hear it!  Thanks!
 
The ff7 remake project is a lot of programmers and story writers from these boards making a prequel to ff7 using the original game engine. I have no idea if qhimm is working on it. FF9 will not make an appearance for the pc, I'm hoping that FF10 will and FF11&12 will for sure all the one beyond that dont have a console system yet but if 11 & 12 sell well on the pc then it is almost certain it will come out on it.
 
Hey dont be saying its a prequel yet.
I may get onto the story borard yet.
 
FF9 isn't coming out for PC, but who cares, you can play it fine with an emulator, try ePSXe from [url="<a]http://www.psxemu.com[/url]" TARGET=_blank>www.psxemu.com

Yeah I played FF9 thru on epsxe with better than psx gfx with FSAA on.
 
lol, how are you gonna go through a whole RPG without getting Cloud higher than level 5 (or whatever the starting level is)!? only joking. prequel is the one before the game isnt it? sequels after, yes, an old english lessons coming back to me.....(turns around with watery eyes and goes back to the golden ages)
 
Back in the days, I'm in yr10 and I didnt know the difference between adverbs nouns etc until a few days ago, I never payed attention. OH MY GOD IVE BEEN AT SCHOOL FOR 10 YEARS. O HOW SO MUCH OF MY LIFE HAS BEEN WASTED WITH THIS EDUCATION SYSTEM. WHY DO OTHER COUNTRIES PACK THE SAME AMOUNT OF LEARNING INTO LESS. WHY WHY WHY? As long as I learn summit I suppose it will be useful, then I can be rich hehehe  and then i shalt banish the joeys of the world into the sea.
 
Here's what I think I can officially tell you about the remake:1) The "rumor" that it is a prequel is not true, nor is it false. No definate story has been put to paper, so it's simply best to call it a remake or even better, a fan-fiction.

2) We are thinking about several possibilties for the direction the story will take. Something we all seem to agree on is that Sephiroth will be the main focus of the story, possibly the main character.

3) Most or all of the characters fron FF7 (Cloud, Tifa, Barret, ect.) will make an appearance, but this is just an idea we are throwing around.

4) Since no story has been set, we are currently working on breaking the FF7 coding and we are also doing research that may end up in the remake.

I'm afraid I've already said too much, but I thought you all might want to know some info about the remake.

As much as I would like to tell you guys about what is happening, it would also not do anyone any good should part of the storyline leak out. Seph 3D has told you enough, maybe more than enough, so you guys can go speculate about that   :)I would love to tell you more about who's doing what in the FF Remake Forum but I might end up leaking something important. I'll leave it up to the other members themselves to tell all of you what they are doing. Basically, at the moment I'm doing a mapping of the FF7PC Memory Address's or what all of you would say "cheats"? Of course, the cheat's sections are only a small portion of what is covered in my current document. And no, I will not release the document to public, at least not at this moment.  :D

I dont really see why you have to keep it so *hush hush* as if it is something *seriously* top secret.  Maybe it gives you a feeling of importance somehow which you cannot obtain anywhere else, I dunno.[This message has been edited by Ant (edited May 01, 2001).]
 
Well, I'm glad that they are, 'cause this is gonna be awesome when it gets done, and I don't want the story spoiled.

I would hate to say this but the people currently working on this project are doing it on a "voluntary" basis, so none of us are doing it just to make ourselves feel important or such.

1. Any technical research we do on FF7PC in the Remake Forum cannot be revealed because it is very likely that we'll spend a lot of our time fighting lawsuits with Squaresoft. Why? By actually hacking or reverse-engineering FF7PC, we "will" in fact be violating source code copyrights.

2. The reason we do not want to reveal the storyline is once word gets out, it spreads pretty fast. That would spoil the whole story wouldn't it? Though we can trust people here, a "slip of the tongue" can be easily made so before long, the whole storyline will propagate around the net. With that, the whole point of the remake is lost. It's somewhat like a game developer;how many game developers actually tell you the storyline before the game is out?

3. We generally keep this project closed so to keep a profile as low as possible. Why? Not that Qhimm wouldn't like a million hits on his web site everyday, but it's just that with too large a group of people, we will

a) Attract a lot of attention from Square(Qhimm might end up with his site closed)

b) Receive lots of mail from people wanting to know more. (Qhimm especially)

I know I may me exaggerating a lot here but what I'm trying to say here is that the remake forum people have a reason for what they are doing, ok?

BTW, for Qhimm's sake, you guys can mail all angry mail to me   :)

A few things we should consider is that
1: Word is going to eventurly spread. Especially if we were to release any betas/full version to the public.2:We should hope sqaure dosent mind(They dont mind about the sound fonts it seems....so far at least.)
 
i understand why you want to keep it secret. you're all doing it voluntarily, so you dont want some sad little hacker to spread the word round the net. saying its gonna be a whole new final fantasy but not made by square or something like that. plus it would get annyoing if loads of annoying newbies came to the board. i mean LOADS. you should see the feeder board, you can post something one day and the next day it will be on the 4th page.
 
If u think thats bad I once posted something on the ign gamecube board and when i came back 1hr later it was on the 3rd page.
I dont want the story leaked out to me nor do I want some freak spreading it round the net so square found out and ended up closing qhimms site down.
 
I'd better put my word into this too, making it 'official' ^.^First of all, I'm not directly related to the remake project. I don't have any active part in storywriting or anything related to the game itself, it's simply my board that has turned into a meeting place for those involved. And no, that's not just something I say in case Square is watching   :) If they are, I could be in trouble for saying this already.

My part, more specifically, is working with the actual engine of the new game, so to speak. I won't say anything more, if the complete information got out early I'm not sure what would happen, and I do think it would be better for the world to see the complete work released than having it stopped mid-way. Oh well, members and future members of the Remake forum will know, and the reason we aren't that many in there is that I need to be able to trust that the progress isn't leaked.

I can tell you this anyway; we're dying for more technical assistance. I can't do this massive task on my own. Btw, by 'technical assistance', I mean more than having basic skills in C or Delphi. I need people familiar with game programming, assembly language and the inner workings of FF7. Just don't go modest on us and don't apply or anything... if you have skills and free time, drop a line.

The SaiNt: Hmmm, what sort of document is this?  :)Sir Canealot: If there are betas, I very much doubt they will be released to the public. Perhaps (read, *very* iffy) to a few very select beta testers who are outside the project.
 
How select do you have to be? Can I be elected, I am always last at all the sports :(
