Can I use a burnt NTSC WildARMs on ePSXe. I have 1.4.0 and SCHP1001. Any help would be fine. Cheers.

I've been meaning to say this for quite a while.
IMHO The moderators have been gatting a bit heavy handed with the ol' close thread function.  Is there really any need for it?  No, didn't think so.

theyve only closed about 5 total (many of which were joey's :D) i think its nice to have many of these closed.
 
IMHO, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you consider 'spam'. all posts have a meaning, even if it seems somewhat pointless. its what keeps forums alive. all those little fun things.
 
No, it isn't; what keeps *this* forum alive is *not* being full of useless posts. If I want to read pointless posts, believe me, there's lots of places I could go. The reason I, and some other people, keep coming to Qhimm's forums is that there *is* - or was - a large proportion of posts that were actually interesting, useful or intelligent in some way.

To take the "Poetry" thread as an example - which I probably should have closed, and if anyone complains about it I will - what does it currently consist of?

-A mildly amusing poem by Darkness
-A dodgy poem by Joey (who else?)
-A large number of posts on how to use BB code, something which is in the board FAQ
-Some Joey bashing

To be honest, that sort of thing doesn't really add anything to the board.

Qhimm has stated publically in the past that you do NOT post anything on this board which is blatently illegal, pure flaming, totally useless or pr0n. I try to close any threads which break that. I'm fairly glad that isn't many but yes, it *has* been getting more lately.

Tell you what: I'll say what *I* do when deciding to close a thread. If anyone disagrees, they can tell me, but Qhimm's the person who sets the rules here, so you'll have to convince him ultimately.

If a thread is discussing something *directly* illegal, I'm going to close it. This thread isn't. It's discussing PSX emulation, which is a grey area. Someone asking where to download full games, or where to get a PSX BIOS image, yes, that *would* be illegal, so that would get closed.

Someone posting pr0n or links to it. I was a bit uneasy about the Poetry thread, but since no-one's complained I haven't closed it yet. Anything seriously adult gets closed, and probably deleted.

Topics that are totally useless. If it consists just of "Joey, you suck!", "No I don't", "Yes you do!", it gets closed.

If anyone asks for a thread to be closed, then I'll usually look at it; if I'm not sure, I *do* usually post that I'm going to unless someone objects. Anyone who does object, I'll certainly consider not closing it/opening it.

I hope this has cleared things up a bit...
 
I used Joey as an example because when somebody's getting flamed on this board, it usually *is* Joey. Sometimes he *does* ask for it; in the past he has posted absolute BS. Of course, that doesn't mean it's *always* justified to flame him by any means.

As a side point, if anyone disagrees about me closing a thread they're free to PM or email me, or whichever mod it is (I'm guessing it'll be me since I'm modding General, and we all know how much traffic *that* generates...); the whole point about closing a thread rather than deleting it is that it can be read and opened again.
 
hey, im all for closing posts. its just that not all of that 30% is spam.

I agree with you fice, this board's had a lot more spam posted on it than usual recently. I used to post a lot, but I don't anymore cos there's hardly ever any interesting threads to post in. Most seem to be about phpBB or hosting problems, or just threads that link to a silly site.
But it's just my opinion, I'm sure most people find those posts interesting otherwise the board would be dead by now.

first the tos:
MEMBER CONDUCT
You agree that you will not use this service to perform the following actions.

Offensive Posts: An "Offensive" post is one that:
Contains vulgar, profane, or sexually explicit language.
Uses race, religion, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, handicap, or gender as a means of insult. This includes, but is not limited to, using sexual preference as an insult to anyone or anything.
Contains threatening, harassing, defamatory, hate-speech, or libelous language.
Contains URLs that link to pornographic or hate-speech web sites.
Contains URLs that link to web sites with potentially offensive content without a clear warning.
Examples: Descriptions of certain body parts or sexual activities, calling anyone or anything "gay" or any similar word, threatening physical harm to another board member.
Censor Bypass: Partially obscuring a banned word or phrase by inserting symbols or misspelling in order to bypass the message board censor. The only acceptable means of posting a "banned" word or phrase is to completely obscure it with symbols.
Examples: If "gris" were a banned word, posting "gri$", "gr1s", "griiiis", "gr*s", and even "g***" are considered Censor Bypasses and are in violation of the TOS. "****" is the only acceptable means of showing this word.
Notes: Most words commonly censored out of televised showings of movies are blocked, as well several sexually explicit terms and often-spammed web sites. If there is any question of whether a particular term is not allowed, as long as it is spelled correctly, the censor will pick it up and give you fair warning. However, be warned that just because a post is not blocked by the censor does not mean that it doesn't violate other sections of the TOS.
Impersonation: Using a Message Board Username or other methods intending to appear as someone that you are not. This includes account names that mock or insult other board users, regardless of the circumstances of the creation of the account. Creating an impersonation account is grounds for immediate loss of all other shared accounts.
Illegal Activities: Using the Message Boards to engage in software piracy in any form (i.e. asking for ROMs/Warez, giving download locations of such), methods of bypassing copyright protection on software, or any other illegal activity. Note that discussion of emulators and emulation is acceptable, as well as discussions of mod-chips for various systems.
Examples: Asking where to download any commercial game or offering a commercial game for download is almost always illegal. The fabled "Dreamcast Boot CD" is illegal, as it contains stolen copyrighted material. MP3s, unless specifically released for free download by the creator, are protected by copyright and covered by this rule.
Spamming: Posting web site advertisements, For-Sale/For-Trade/For-Auction notices, "Make Money Fast" schemes, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or other posts generally regarded as unsolicited advertising or that are to be used for commercial gain. Including a web site address in a signature is acceptable, as long as it is evident that you are contributing content in the body of your message posts.
Flaming: Posting a message that personally insults another message board member. You are free to disagree with the opinions of other people, but name-calling is not tolerated.
Examples:: "You are dumb" is a flame. "Your last post was incorrect" is not.
Trolling: Posting a message that is intended to annoy and/or offend other posters or creating topics on a board for the purpose of starting a flame war (i.e. a series of insults).
Examples:: Posting "Pokemon Sucks" on the Pokemon board, where you will obviously get nothing but disagreements.
Off-Topic Posting: Posting topics that are clearly do not belong on a certain board, posting topics solely designed to get hundreds of posts with little or no content, posting topics that have nothing to do with a particular game or its characters on that game's message board, and posting topics that clearly belong on another message board.
Off-Topic Examples: On the Final Fantasy VII board, "FFVII Survivor" (hundreds of posts with little content, should be on one of the General boards), "Who here likes Pokemon?" (belongs on the Pokemon board), "FFVII RPG" (belongs on the Roleplaying/Fanfiction board), "I like cheese" (nothing to do with FFVII), "Let's get this board in the Top 10" (nothing to do with the game)
On-Topic Examples: On the Final Fantasy VII board, "What is your favorite FFVII character and why?", "Are there any other good games like this one?", "I need help on Disc 1", "Where can I order the soundtrack CD?"
Waiver: The Off-Topic rule is not enforced on gaming boards for games for older systems (with no Top 10 Message Board list), although all other TOS rules still apply and will be enforced.
Underage Users: The GameFAQs message boards are restricted to users 13 years of age and over. GameFAQs does not knowingly collect user information from users under the age of 13, but if it is discovered through a user's own message post that they are under 13 years old, we will be forced to close the account. In addition, asking other users how old they are (either individually or in a generally-posted topic, indirectly or directly) is not allowed.
Topic Spoilers: Posting "spoilers" (i.e. critical plot details) about games in the title of a topic. To discuss such information in a topic, users should leave the title of the topic as vague as possible and include a warning (i.e. "SPOILER") in the topic title. In a post, you should leave several dummy lines in a post before revealing any vital plot information.
Harassment/Stalking: Continual harassing behavior directed towards a certain individual or group with the intent of an creating an intimidating, offensive, or hostile environment on the boards, with or without use of explicit or implicit threats.
Disruptive Activities: Posting multiple identical messages (either on the same board or multiple boards), blank messages, messages with no or repeated content, and messages or topics with very long words designed to disrupt other users' browsers.
Board "Wars"/Invasions/Flooding: Instigating, participating, or retaliating in a group invasion of a message board. Playing any part in an "invasion" is grounds for immediate loss of all known accounts.
Other: Any other activity that is clearly detrimental to the flow of conversation and "life" of the boards.
Performing any of the first five above listed actions is grounds for immediate cessation of posting privileges on the site, and repeated violations of other rules are grounds for termination of your account as well. Repeated violations may be cause for banning all use of the boards from your IP address or your entire ISP, as well as grounds for contacting your ISP or other relevant parties concerning your activities.
All determinations of what is "acceptable" and "unacceptable" content is determined solely by GameFAQs and whoever it designates as moderators. You agree that the decision of the moderators is final, and you may not legally contest their rulings.

this is what happenes when people have to deal with to many people. frankly the admins here are like little cream puffs when put next to ather admins, in according to the ammout that they use their powers.

Whoa ... they have the right kind of ideas, but I get the impression their TOS takes it waaaaaaaay too far. It's impossible to make any even moderately involved set of rules without leaving a few vague areas ... the whole point about mods is to have a human mind on the other end making the decisions. Or at least, it should be.
