Red XIII'S little companions

The wiki says Red XIII Rescued them from a bear but.. Didn't Hojo say Red XIII is the last of his kind/breed?? Kinds of a shock to see their are many more of them not only Red XIII.
 
If he's the last of his species, why were there two small ones running around at the end?
 
That's the confusion I'm asking in the first post. Maybe Hojo was wrong in assuming Red XIII is the last of his species cause it states Red XIII saves the other two when they were having problems with a bear. But it makes more sense since Red XIII never had a female companion so he'll never have a son.
 
I'm pretty sure Before Crisis introduces a female of his species.
 
He mated with Deneh, the girl. She isnt seen anywhere else other than before crisis, because her and Red performed a ritual for Cosmo Canyon, and it required her to be sealed away in an alter for many years.
