removing cloud from party

ello, a few days ago while looking for mods i saw a topic that talked about how you can remove cloud from your party by editing a file.

i've spent the last hour trying to refind that topic but i cant seem to find it anywhere, my question is what file do you gotta edit? i wanna make a party of tifa/aeris/yuffie
 
You should only need to edit your savegame to allow Cloud to be switchable using the PHS. I think Black Chocobo can do that.
 
Careful though.  I don't know how it works on the PC version, but on the PSX version you can get yourself into a situation where you won't be able to advance the game because Cloud's field model just won't show up.  I don't know the cause of this, but it has happened to me more than a few times (when swapping Cloud out for too long).

thats simply because of the way the game handles 'party member slots' so to speak
the top slot is not automatically 'party member #1'
so if you switch out cloud member #2 becomes #1 ( iirc ) and so on. so you have to do a lot of switching to make Cloud back into member #1, which is necessary as member #1 is the on-field display model and unless the on-field display model is in the actual field data, nothing will show up.

in theory this should always be fixable by making a cloud-only party ( cloud, empty, empty ) I never tested that however.

Traditionally the game won't let you do that. However, there are certain spots where this would fail, but only a few and probably only before you leave Midgar the first time. Major story elements like Rocket Town's Huge Materia sequence "requires" you to have Cid and they force him into the party at one time. Same thing with Tifa after Gaea's Cliff.
 
Yeah typically this would only happen to me from abuse of the USO menu and running around the world with Yuffie, Young Cloud (forcefully enabled after acquiring Cait Sith) and Sephiroth in my party.  Although it happened a few times with Yuffie, Red, Aeris parties. 

What you're describing kuugen, is the method that I knew about but had forgotten how to properly use! haha.  I kept making like Triple Cloud parties, running back and forth between screens and in and out of Towns/Worldmap with Triple Cloud Parties, Single Cloud only parties.  I ended up just Debug Rooming myself to the part of the game where I was at because nothing else was working.

So...and I know I've seen this talked about in some other places, so I apologize, is there a simple way to go through the game without Cloud in the party?  And by that I mean, complete Storyline events without Cloud (or the temporary party leader) being present.  Nevermind.  Don't answer that, I know it has been asked so many times - I will find the answer after work.
