Retexturing a mod

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and I wanted to ask how I can open the textures of a mod to be able to edit them with Photoshop. I have experience with Photoshop but I have no idea what format the textures use (. dds, tga...etc.) of the most used mods... thanks in advance and greetings.
