Wee. I'm alive. [nah, Ged, it's just your imagination].. [...]

Anyhow -

1) I need Final Fantasy 8 original art.
Mainly - GF's and monsters, characters (except the main ones)..
Help appreciated..
2) Just played FF8 on ePSXe. It rocks :D PC version sucks.
3) Any progress in the FF7 Remake Project?
4) Best soundfont for FF8..?
5) Tell me what the hell is that wonky thing in FF8 that has a BIG "GOME-NE" written on his back...?

FFVIII PC does not suck!  ...it just has a few problems... like skipping frames on some summons... and having the wrong sound effects for Quezecotle (spelling?)... and having a really corny sound for Jumbo Cactuar... other than that the PC version is soooo much better than the Playstation version!  Look at the way a good computer can make the summons look freaking coool!  Look at how little loading time there is!  Look at how smooth everything runs!

Now to business.  There isn't much origional art on the picture shrines, but there is some.... you might try "http://www.ffonline.com".

Duh, I repeat - on ePSXe.
On a PSX it is much worse than PC [when it comes to graphics of course], but on ePSXe the framerate is perfect, the graphics are much smoother, it is much harder to notice pixels - and the sound is much better. And Triple Triad. The animation n'all..

So over all -

1. FF8PSX on ePSXe
2. FF8PC
3. FF8PSX

That's mho.

About art - I saw once in a while GF art (Shiva, Ifrit, Quezacotl - for sure!) - no I only need it...

Epsxe is better than FFVIII PC only if you have the state of the freaking art technology that you bought for a rediculously crazy amount of money when you could wait a few and then get it when it's cheap... FFVIII PC doesn't require the best technology but Epsxe does...

Well. If you still have a :
PII 266MhZ, 64MB Ram, 8x CD, 16MB videocard, then ok, you win.[stats. writen of the box]
But I assume that a current standart is a config of
Duron 800MhZ, 128MB RAM, 40x CD, 32/64 GeForce2MX400..
I have a similiar one and both things run flawlessly on it.
PC version is worse due to graphics, sound, framerate, and triple triad.
Bt why should we make a fight out of it?
The winner is obvious.
It's the game. Not the platform -_-"

Kendrilian - system requirements for FF8 to run in ePSXe are about the same for it to run in Windows normally.

PC version's framerate is crapped out sometimes (I know my computer is capable of a better framerate, but sometimes it just doesn't happen).  Triple triad... what's wrong with it (besides the filters on the cards, is that what you mean?)?  Sound is ok, once you apply Samuel's FF8DLS, and so on.

I agree Ged.  I also don't have any problems with Triple Triad, it seems to run better than the "regular" playstation to me...

Kendrilian

About Triple Triad?
Wah. First the cards - they seem to have two layers, one is blurred another not, so often the cards are bad quality with a white line on top. And animation durin all the same/plus etc - wel.. It's just not the same..
Samuel'sDLS? First here of it.. Where can I download it?

Hmm... I swear that I am the only human who plays Final Fantasy, everyone else notices all of these tiny, little, insignificant, pointless, details and I don't... I don't care that Quezecotle's sound is the same sound as Pheonix... I don't care that the cards have 2 layers... I don't care that the music is not as good as some of the PlayStation...  all I care about is that Jumbo Cactuar's sound really sucks compaired to the PlayStation!

*the only human*

Hey now,  I play it too.  I don't care for all those intricaces (sp?).  It seems to me that you aren't paying attention  to your friend that goes to the same school as you mr. Kendrillian.

Sorry Wobbitt... but I sometimes feel that way... and I don't have the best of memories... but I agree that you are definatly human... "Aaron who wasn't  :P here" definatly isn't human...

If they had done a slightly less lazy job of porting FF8 to PC... I would be happier.  What bothers me most is the performance my comp gives on the world map (heh... crap!) and I've seen lots of other complaints about this too.  I KNOW my computer can handle those graphics... bad programming.

It's the matter of details - when you'r eplaying the game for the sixth time you tend to catch them out, and they distract the gameplay..

The only complaint I have with the Quezacotl summon, is that its not loud enough.

World map??  Smoothness IS possible, it works like a charm on my 1.5Ghz system....  :D

Yeah, details do start coming out when playing it the for the 3rd, fourth, or fifth times thru.

As for sound, the upcoming "Revision2" update to the Original DLS (made possible by the fine folks of....oh, wait, I'm the one designing it.....LOL) should make a dent in the gap in quality between my Improved Tracks patch, and Samuel's DLS.

Cool you can fix the sound?  That will be awesome!  It has been driving me crazy being all corny sounding...

Mot! Have you been mind controlling me again?

I've had that urge again...

Kendrilian

welll... both of them.... I've always had the urge to herbal and maybe girls will come with the body wash.  :D

The other was what I meant at the time though....  I don't have any idea why I just had those urges...

*confused*

Not just me.  Samuel's DLS (and the other soundfonts) do the same thing, but to varying degrees.  In regards to high quality, Samuel's DLS ranks first, but at the cost of Download time, but that's only if you're using a modem.  However, you pay for what you get, so it IS worth the download time, if you're being that annoyyed by it.

My new, upcoming entry into the DLS side of things is only about a meg, maybe a meg and a half, but again, the increase in quality gained is about porportional the the download size.  All I did, was update two samples to what SquareSoft should have done (The trademark french horn from FF7 being one of them.....The other, well, maybe you should hear what it does to The Extreme :naughty:)

Instead of making you needlessly download the entire DLS (over 9megs!), I simply used Dag's patchmaker program to create a patch that you apply to the existing 8megabyte Original DLS, and then you're set, having only downloaded about one-eighth the size!

-edit-
Maybe I should talk about the new version of The Legendary Beast (Griever's Theme), that will have a neat choir track in it, inspired by the song's strings section........Nah, too much advertising......
