sound skips on high resolution

I've had trouble getting my music to play properly. I just figured out that if the resolution is set to 640 x 480 then the music seems to play fine, but when i set it to use 1280 x 960 the soundtrack skips and sometimes stops playing altogether.

i used Bootleg full preset install configuration.

im running a Nvidea gforce 520 video card.
