How does us modding it make Square Enix suffer?   The only fan made "modding" that ever even had potential to lose them business was Chrono Trigger Resurrection.   We are using an engine from 1997, there's no profit to be lost.

Also, it's been leaked...  a lot.  Youtube Final Fantasy 7.
 
Who leaked?   I'll find them, meet them, kick them in the nuts, and so forth. -_-'  Square Enix is a bastard.
 
Why didnt they just do it secretly on closed forum and then release by torrent and deny all knowledge?  They ran scared.  I wouldn't.
 
Q-Gears *should* be okay, because it's just an *implementation* of a game engine that accepts drop-ins of game resources. The Chrono team actively nicked an IP and its associated materials. That's a very, very different thing.

Still, it pays to be discrete.
