It is an un-official fix.. and is not guarenteed to work on all machines. If the patch doesn't resolve the chocobo races XP issue then I'm affraid it doesn't look good for you. You might have to get a save point after the racing in order to continue with your game.

You can always try to patch it manually, with a hex editor.

Might I (once again) point out that "it doesn't work" gives very little clues for us where to start looking. Where does it fail? What does it say? Does the game still crash? Where does it crash, exactly? etc. etc.

it crashes at... hmm i'll just say what happens. when you walk into the place that lets yo do chocobo races (the first time to get out of prison) the music stays on, but the screen stays black, and sometimes it just closes
