Don't extract it. Just mount it (FF7DISC1) and run the game converter.

Yup... PC copy protection at its finest... look for the existence of a specific file in a certain place. If it's there, you're golden.It's a blank txt file. :?
(The copy protection built into the PS1 itself, though, was actually pretty creative... there's a neat video on YouTube showing how it worked)
