The black bar is not removable.  FF7 for PSX had a display resolution of 320x200 (or thereabouts), so there is some extra space on your screen when you run it at 320x240 (or double that at 640x480) to keep the aspect ration the same (and because it was no doubt easier to write it that way).

Ohhh, okay. ^^ It's just a tiny pet peeve. Doesn't bother me that I can't get rid of it, I'll still play the game as usual. Thanks!

Hey Everyone!

I've read the FAQ and I didn't really find a lot of help for the ATI folks :/ But i have a big major problem!

So I downloaded the 1.02 patch installed it, changed my config settings through the editor but still no fix :/

All I get is a black screen with the Square Soft logo music intro playing, then it cuts out before any image or the next song loads... I tried it in both hardware rendering and software rendering... same results.

Here are my system specs:
XP Pro, legit copy with SP2
3.0 MHZ Pentium IV Processor
1Gb RAM
lots and lots of HD space...
ATI RADEON x300 SE

I used to be able to run this game fine (no crashes at all, but patched a bit :/)

If you could help me, i'll be in your debt! :D

Have you installed the upside-down movie patch?  If you are getting a black screen (no video) this is the first thing you should try.

Yes, download The_Saints Higher-Resolution Patch. With this, you'll have no gridlines when enabling AA.

thank you for the answer, however my monitor only supports up to 1024 768 resolution...

I think there's another AA-solution, just read through the first post of this topic  ;)

:-) tried it and not working... you meant FSAA code right? I think it is for old Geforce Models not the recent one... Even when I use that code and use 2x2 AA I still get gridline... I am using Geforce 6600 btw...

i don't understand any of this someoneplz help i have a problem with the 1.02 patch i have tried everything but nothing work
windows xp professional
1.60GH 798MHz,
504MB of ram

I just wanna verify how to correct the massive grids i'm gettin on ff7. I'm runnin a geforce 5700 so my best bet is to get the detonator 45.32 drivers?  Just unsure because i found a riva tuner compatible with the current driver i'm runnin , which happens to be the newest one available(90somethingorother).  I tried turning off the aa and editing the config file but to no avai.  lI'm runnin on vista ultimate.

Also i have the 1.02 patch and the high res patch and movie patch and i thinks thats all :|

edit: i'm retarded restored the original config code made sure 1.02 was set to tnt and everything is gravy peace out happy 4th of july

So, I read through all of this thread. Here is my advise:

People with sound but no video and you use K-Lite codec pack (and probably any other all in one type pack) wither completely disable ffdshow (not recommended) or go to the ffdshow video configuration tool (I don't know what it is called in other packs) and disable the true motion.

People who don't get any video and get a black screen. I just installed this on six computers today, and on one the only way it would work is if i installed the movie player (or whatever its called) on the autostart screen you get when the install disc is inserted.

Of course I would not post here if i did not have a problem. Ha Ha. Well here it is:
               Specs:
I have a geforce 8600m gt (the latest omega drivers installed)
Win Xp dual boot with mac OS X on the main hd partition
                intel duo core 2.4 ghz
              Problem:
I have installed the 1.02 patch and when i enter the game, my characters are black. I think it could be a texture problem, but I don't know enough about that area to say so.

Yes, I know that this has made threads elsewhere, but most people who talk on this thread don't or haven't posted on those. I will try to post a picture of the problem.

                                                                                                                                                                                            Narishma

             P.S.
Here is  pic from someone else haveing the same problem.

I've got the same problem.
Its graphics-card-related.
Its with every Geforce-8-Card in Windows XP.
In Vista, Magically, the game works fine on a GF8.
I dont have another solution, i even installed Vista on my PC just (!) because of that.

K, that is really lame, because i can not use an older set of drivers which I know would fix the problem. Time to shoot Nvidia. It is really funny because I made sure I got an Nvidia card instead of a radeon. My radeaon 9800 pro ( top of the line when i got it and still would run most anything) had a power port thing and it broke which made the card unusable. Now Nvidia is being stupid too. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. O WEll.

Yeah, its really too bad.
But, its time to get to know why this problem occurs.
Does anyone know what could be wrong with the nVidia drivers or anything else, and why it's working in Vista? What does Vista have, what XP doesn't?

From what I have been able to figure out, which is not much, Nvidia has released a whole string of bad drivers. People are saying that they are mishandling 8-bit textures again or something like that.
I can't find anything straight forward about it.
Nari

P.S.
For those of you with a similar issue, DO NOT replace your drivers with the 158.22 set from Nvidia. It may be my comp but I don't think so, because others have had problems (granted not as bad as mine) too. My copy of Xp died and I had to reformat and reinstall..
.........IT SUCKED. Be careful!
Nari

 - Edit -
I was just playing and i noticed that the characters actually do have color. You can see it in some areas of the game, but it is really dark so I think the characters just need to brighten up lol.

Mod Edit: Do not double-post.

Just what I thought.
GPU-drivers related!
