I see this is based off the japanese legend of Son Goku and no I'm not referring to Dragonball series. there is an actual legend that's in japanese myth lore about this. I believe the actual name is Sun Wukong but the Japanese call it son goku.

Edit: okay I found out it was actual based off a legendary 16th century chinese novel called "Journey To The West" thank god for Wikipedia

Edit #2: so the novel was inspired by the Hindu myth of Hanuman
