the old "warez user" status has been reimplemented, albeit with a new and hopefully more obvious twist to it.  In addition to the avatar a new "pirate" moniker is also given.  These pirates will be allowed to continue socializing with everyone, however, it is our hopes that the huge ass avatar will act like a sort of Scarlet Letter and repulse people from helping them with their broken, illegal game.

Ultima Edition is not an official release. The latest official release of Final Fantasy VII is patch 1.02.

The difference, as the other two have stated, is that some of the important things were ripped out. These things can cause the game to be buggy and almost no mods work for the game. Therefore, we cannot help you.

It's not a matter of working or not, but a matter of legality. Do as you wish, I don't mind, but don't shout at people that you downloaded piracy.
