Just installing FF7 to test it with my new sound card & new video card, tried to get the soundfonts working when I stumbled upon this. Works on my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, at least with the config's music... So, having browsed this topic not too long ago, I wrote this up in about 7 minutes or so.

Getting Sound Fonts Working in FF7, using Creative's SoundFont Bank Manager
*Tested with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS*
By Sephiroth 3D

Step 1) Open your FF7 Configuration panel.
Step 2) Click the MIDI Tab, and Select your MIDI Driver. Please Note this.
Step 3) Set your MIDI Data to General MIDI. Press Test.
Step 4) Move the Config Panel off to the side as you listen.
Step 5) Open the Soundfont Bank Manager. (Should be in with your soundcard's programs.)
Step 6) Click the MIDI Devices button.
Step 7) Set your Soundfont Device to whatever you set your FF7 MIDI Driver to.
Step 8) Set your Soundfont Cache to a number greater than 10 MB.
Step 9) Press OK.
Step 10) Click the pull-down menu next to the blue "Bank" button. Select the option with [000] in front of this. (You might have to scroll up.)
Step 11) Click the blue Bank button.
Step 12) Under the Bank Stack list, click and Remove all but the top entry. On the final bank, click the Replace button. Browse to your FF7 directory, then select "Data", "Midi" and "sf2". Finally, select the "FF7.sf2" file, and hit open.
Step 13) Under "Select Bank", select bank [009].
Step 14) Click the Load button. Find your way back to the directory you went to in step 12. Select the "lb2.sf2" file and click Open.
Step 15) Click OK.

If you have been running the music this whole time, you will have noticed a change in the way it sounds. Just a few more steps to check everything is working:

Step 16) Set the Bank pulldown to [009] User Bank.
Step 17) Right underneath it, (Next to the blue "Preset" button") set it to [115] Woodblock.
Step 18) Press the Center C piano key. (It should have a dot on it.)

If you hear people singing, everything is all set!

Step 19) Click Ok and/or close everything. Your FF7 music is ready to go!

Sigh... there are some valid reasons to why you might want to resurrect a thread, however "complete ignorance" is not one of them. Obviously I chose the wrong order to read through the recent posts today, because yours are getting more severe as I go. I hope you haven't posted any more like this in the Unrelated forum (it's the last one I have left to check), because I'm quite frankly getting a bit annoyed already. And the folks around here don't like when I'm annoyed.

You need a Creative SoundBlaster Live! or Audigy to use the soundfont manager.
