Spoiler? Trap?

In the original ffvii psx english release her name was Aeris, and the pc port follows suit. This has been changed to Aerith in virtually every game she has been in since(KH,KH2,CC, etc.). So if you take a game as an individual work of art then her name is dependent on the game you are playing. If you see it as a series then her name is Aerith and she needs to have the s replaced with th when she joins your party in FFVII.

her name is Aerith.  in fact it is Aerith in the PSX and PC debug menus....  how they missed that is beyond me.

Typical debug:

{CHOICE}South Reactor

{CHOICE}NIVLHAIM tragedy

{CHOICE}Gold Saucer
{CHOICE}take off Tiny Bronco
{CHOICE}AERITH death
{CHOICE}SEPHIROTH
{CHOICE}WEAPON attack
{CHOICE}CLOUD psychoanalusis

{CHOICE}METEO intercept failure
{CHOICE}Shoot SISTER LAY

Yes it may be. But no. it is Aeris. Play the game for the PS. Or take a look at the original guid or the book that come with the game it says her name is Aeris not Aerith.

The PS game was incorrectly translated and so was her name.  Her official name is Aerith.  This isn't debatable.

Aerith's original Japanese name is エアリス (Earisu) [eaɺ̠is(ɯ)] Aerith (Japanese)This has been transliterated to "Aeris" in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Tactics, but later as "Aerith". Both transliterations have basis, as the Japanese "su" (ス) is used when transcribing "s" (/s/) and "th" (/θ/) to Japanese. However, official Japanese material uses the spelling "Aerith",[6][7][8] and developers have stated that "Aerith" is a near-anagram of the English word "Earth".[9]

her name isn't Aeris.  The developers said so. Do you have some issue in taking in facts?  They used Aerith because it is  a near anagram of Earth.  Aerith is her name.  End of.  Just because a translation team make a mistake doesn't mean that the mistake is suddenly correct just because it was there.  That is a ludicrous suggestion.

If something is poorly translated then it is to be corrected.  Aerith is how it is spelled in the advent children credits I believe.  If it wasn't meant to be Aerith then it wouldn't be in all the official documentation after VII and it is....so that is the end of it.  Some things are facts, some are opinion and when they are fact I don't expect a debate on it.  It is time people learned when to just accept something rather than argue on and on.

Would you argue pipes with a plumber?

Seifer is right, if he wasn't the name would be Aeris in Crisis Core. However they used the more correct translation Aerith. I don't think you can base the name on a debug room argument though since she is also given the name Princess in at least one room. So the default in the original game will always be set to Aeris and if that is the only game in the series it would be her real name. But there is Crisis Core and that should end the debate. This debate is old and I remember when I was 19('98) standing out front of the local lasertag people were having this same debate.

Her name is Aerith and this has been corrected in all FF7-related compilation titles. It's Aerith, not Aeris.

I disagree. Its Aeris. I'm going to debate it. It's called originality. So what if the team did not translate it to a T. They probably had a good reason for it. I, and any other person who is old enough to have played the original game, would know that it's Aeris, not Aerith. "End of."

Yep I did. Because you're wrong.

Debate all you like, the developers said it is Aerith.  If a writer tells you directly what a name is, then you have to be rather stupid to argue.  Let's have a debate on if the world is round or flat.

Thanks Alex. well that's too bad that the developers said that. Because if it were really true, then it wouldn't have ever been Aeris. They would have just avoided the problem that you seem to be having. So I would say it's Aeris.

Was the entire point of this thread just to start this argument?
Yes.  Which is why the first couple of posters didn't directly answer the troll's question.
