Five Weapon: Emerald, Ruby, Ultima, Diamond, Sapphire (the fish weapon that got killed by Junon's cannon)

I named that fish weapon Sapphire cuz i have no knowledge of that weapon's name. so Sapphire fitted him cuz Sapphire is blue and the water is blue,, and that weapon is a water weapon.

Anyway, what is the purpose of them> so far i understand that way FF7, but Weapons is the one im still not understand. Some said it the protector of the planet, some said it the destoryor of the planet. So based on Gast's story, it is confusing

So i am trying to think, my thought is "Weapon came from somewhere in space but crashed to FF7's planet and left there inactive for long time until someone woke Weapon which that is Cloud."... until the Weapon is scatter around the world. this is the confusing part, if Weapon is the "hurting" the Planet, then why Diamond Weapon is trying to attack Midgar to stop the Sister Ray, but Cloud and the group got in his way and have no choice but to attack them, until the end of the battle, Diamond sensed a danger from Sister Ray and trying to flee away from the battle and heading to Midgar. but When Diamond sensed a serious danger, he unleashed his great powers to target Midgar. After that Sister Ray instantly kill him and head to the Northern Crater to destory the shielding.

But after a couple of thinking, so i think that the shield is a protection from Sephy, so he cannot come out of the Crater until the shield is broken, so i thought that why Weapon sensed a danger and want to stop the Sister Ray before it destory the shield. and i have other thought, the shield is a shield against Sephy magic, so he cannot cast the Black Materia's deadly power until the shield is gone. If Weapon is "protecting" the planet, then why Could and the group is attacking them?

that is my thought of the purpose of Weapon

Anyone have other thought og purpose of Weapon, if oyu do please tell me

Weapons are generated by the planet when it's in trouble as far as i know. As to their purpose i suppose to remove any the threat that brought them about in the first place.

then how Weapon is created??

They were already created by the *planet* but asleep at the time.

how planet created Weapons?? so far i see a Crater, so it might mean the WEapons is from outer space.......... im just saying cuz the weapons is in the Crater, so how weapon got in Crater or how planet created WEapons

The same way it creates and runs everything else lol. That crator was made by Jenova when it hit the planet and this is where alot of energy is gathered to heal that wound(the crator) which is why sephiroth is there.

chesso is right, perhaps you should replay the game and pay particular attention to the actual story

Maybe this will help understand, its from the FF7 time perspective

Many Years Ago:

    * The Cetra, a magical race, arrive on the planet after a long and arduous journey. Some Cetra (later known as Ancients) choose to continue their journey, whilst others settle down and eventually become humans. A few true Cetra still survive, however.

2000 Years Ago:

    * Jenova, a malevolent creature, crash-lands on the planet and causes a huge rift, the Northern Crater. Jenova infects the Cetra with a virus, turning them into monsters. Most of the remaining Cetra are slaughtered as the humans hide out in their new settlements, avoiding the terror. The Planet creates five Weapons to battle Jenova, but they are never used. A small number of surviving Cetra succeed in containing her in the Northern Crater. The Planet begins to heal itself using its life energy. (It never fully recovers.)

The full FF7 story can be found here in point form liek above. Hope that this clears that up, atleast a little bit

The purpose of the Weapons was to create Lifestream for the planet....

A last resort.
Kill everything living on the Planet, to give energy to the planet. Starting with the stongest...and working it's way down, until the Planet said, "When".

And the Planet created the Weapon(s)....they didn't come from outer space.

so that the reason why Planet told Diamond to destory Midgar cuz Midgar is asborsing too much energy to use on Sister Ray?

weapons don't create lifestream, they protect the planet. Same as a body guard protects their client. Weapons are the body guards of the planet.

Midgar was sucking lifestream out of the planet slowly killing it so Weapon attacked midgar to stop them stealing lifestream energy and killing the planet.

I'd suspect that Weapon would of continued around the planet destroying all the mako reactors as they all do the same thing - kill the planet. Though it was shot and destroyed by sister-ray before it even got to Midgar.

Originally Weapons were created to protect the planet vs jenova - not go around randomly killing things to get extra lifestream energy - come on this is Black & White we're talking about, their point wasn't to go around sacrificing innocents so the planet had more power but rather fight jenova and the monster jenova created after infecting the "Ancients" with a virus but when their time came to actually fight, the fight was over so they just went to sleep for aloooooong to such time as they were needed to protect the planet again, which was now

come on, its really isn't THAT hard to understand. Just go and replay the game, try and find a saved game on the net somewhere near where they start talking about weapons and stuff - probably in the lost city (i think is the first significant mention and explaination of what "Weapon"s are)

Shadow, based on your saying, then why cloud and the team is attacking weapon?

There's only one that you have to actually fight and that's to stop it from attacking midgar and with good reason.

EDIT: You do fight the  have to fight the flying one once in the game but you dont actually kill it and that is to stop it from harming people in that town also.

yes ^^ is right

You attack the one going to midgar because it is going to destroy midgar. Even though they hate shinra, theres still people in midgar that you want to save - Marlene for instance

Thats why they attack that Weapon. The other weapons you don't HAVE to attack, the first time i played through i never fought the red one (Ruby?) that flys, i just went straight to the creator to fight Sepy.

but yeah cloud and the others only attack it to slow it down/attempt to save midgar for certain destruction

Utlima is the flying weapons

and im not talking about midgar, i alreadkno know cloud need to attack the weapon to slow them down, but im talking about AFTER that, after the shield is gone

you don't have to attack the flying weapons, their just an extra bit. Like the goldern saucer, you don't have to go back to the play games but you can. You don't have to attack the weapons but you can

The main point in attacking them though, is if your doing a certain side quest that requires you to get some rare items, which just so happen to be held by the a couple of the weapons

but yeah to answer your question, There is no plot related point to attacking the other weapons. your not forced to attack them like you are with the midgar one - like with the midgar one you have to attack it to progress further in the game/story. Wheres with these you don't, their just extra things - like the card game in Final Fantasy 8

Just to get it all straight, I know some of this has been said already:

Diamond Weapon: (Silver) Found near Midgar, when ShinRa fires the Gun. You have to fight this one.

Ultima Weapon: (Purple) Found flying all over the planet, you don't have to this one, but it get's you some good stuff (ultimate weaponry, enemy skill etc)

Emerald Weapon: (Green) Found under water near the Gelnika, it swims around, again you don't have to do this one, and you shouldn't unless you are really high level --> powerful, but good stuff indeed

Ruby Weapon (Red): found near the Gold Saucer, somewhere in the Sand, most powerful one of all, rest same as Emerald.

Okay?

Greetz,

EW.

Everyone keeps forgetting you do have to fight the flying one at some stage but you dont actually kill it. I can't remember the name of the town.

that is ultima in Mitdell (something like that)

I'm guessing you didn't actually find the vidoe diary of Professor Gast in Icicle Inn area. Go back there and search the buildings, you'll get some more info on Weapon and why they were created etc..

i disagree, Ruby is not powerful weapon, Emerald is..... Ruby is so easy to beat even im alone with cloud. i can beat Ruby in two or three KOTR

Emerald is preety hard to beat but hard than Ruby. i hate his Aire Tam Storm and his eyes that draining my mp, but lucky Final Attack=Phoenix came in handy.......
