What should Tech Related be renamed to?

I like Obesebear's reasoning.  If you've been here for awhile, it really doesn't matter what it is named because we all know what goes there.  If it is renamed, the new name of the board means a lot more to new members.

I'm assuming no consensus was yet reached since the name stayed the same ?

As for comments about some names sounding uninviting, that's pretty much what I was going for.  Tech Related is like the library of the boards.  No messing around in there (messing with hot chicks between bookshelves is ok though)!

No concensus yet, not enough support for anything. We might just decide between the staff.

I would take Tools out of Projects, swap Mods and Projects, rename Projects to Work in Progress.

Code: [Select]
Code:
Final Fantasy 7              //Section*Reverse Engineering    //Board*Mods                          //Board  *Work in Progress       //Sub-board*Tools                          //Board
Something like that anyway.

And I'm with either Reverse Engineering.

I think it definitely needs to contain the word Engineering, if only to serve as an obvious sign to new members that they probably have no business being in there.

If "Reverse Engineering" on its own sounds a bit TOO specific and a bit TOO negative to a few folks, why not "Engineering and Reverse Engineering"? Sonic Retro forums have a board with that name reserved for rom hacking and data investigation and the like, and it's never been too confusing as to what the board's for. By adding "engineering and" it's a bit more gentle sounding.

It sounds like 'scripting and engineering' is the most popular one. Personally, I think it's a bit too vague - 'reverse engineering' is explicit about us trying to, well, reverse-engineer algorithms and filestructures. But either, I think, is more helpful than 'tech related'.

...Are you psychic?

We agreed on 'Scripting and Reverse Engineering' as a candidate earlier this evening.

Thoughts?

Consensus : Scripting and Reverse Engineering ?
I don't see any consensus. Three people doesn't count, especially when the poll says something quite different.

Nor is it always a good idea to mix together the two most vocally supported ideas. If half of us wanted ice-cream and the other half wanted pizza, would you give us ice-cream pizza?

Logical fallacy is fallacious. This is a bad analogy.

It is not ALWAYS a good idea to mix the two, but in this case it works. "Not always" != "Never"

I don't think it works. In fact, I think it's exactly like ice cream pizza.

No, ice cream pizza would be "Scripting and completely unrelated".

Game mechanics usually refers to how the gameplay works rather than how the engine the game runs on works.

To me, "Scripting and Reverse Engineering" seems very much like two things that have been forced together even though they don't want to be. Much as I dislike "Reverse engineering" it sounds better than the compromise.
