Consider thats a concept drawing, or some kind of official art, not an ingame version of him. If anything, I like the new Sephiroth in that picture, he looks a little more darker and sorrowful.

That may be very true, I would infact picture Sephiroth like that. Acually to be more specific I would picture him being like that after the whole Shinra mansion thing.  Disregarding his body, his face to me is more feminine then it was in the game (or atleast his usual pictures). :P

In that concept art, he looks more of a rugged bad ass. In the movie one, he has a much more softer feel to his face, but at the same time, it makes him look even more crazier I think. He looks like he just killed someone, and hasnt even thought twice of it, compared to that art where he looks like any ordinary loud-mouthed punk.

I prefer the cold, silent serial killer-like face over the one in the art personally.

Thats what it is. His eyes. The ones in the movie form are so dark like they're overshadowed. That, and the tilted head, and just the look and feel of his face just give off an eerie serial killer feel for some reason...

Yeah, but you can make any face look like their a badass serialkiller. :P It's just that for some reason, his new face looks more girlish then it used to.

Since we're on the topic of appearance, how about Barret? I did not picture him like this ...

I think you're underestimating Nomura. He after all created this character, so he knows better how this character was meant to be. And the movie version suits it far better then the concept art. It's not just a simple "I'm a crazy madman killer". The concept art one doesn't even compare to the game.

:z 4 faces of Sephiroth -- From the game, to the movie. :z

As far as the hair goes, I was referring to the "lift" in his bangs. PumpkinPieman's statement of Sephorith's face being somewhat girlish caught my eye. I took a 2nd look at the image and noticed his hair is parted in AC! Didn't notice it b4, but I'd blame the look on that. Although, the mouth/lips maybe the "face" part 'Pie was referring too.

Barret's hard to tell. I've only seen one image. Similar situation with Yuffie. There’s the image of her parashooting down, but that’s it.
BTW: I would gladly view the recently released trailer, if I wasn't on dialup and trying to download other stuff while I sleep. :isee:

GunBlades are mentioned here, in the 4th Paragraph down (no pics :(). Beware: Major Spoilers! The link was originally posted by The SaiNt.

Underestimating Nomura? I'd say, yes & no. Yes: There his characters and he has every right to change them as he sees best. No:He's compromising his original style that has been engraved in people's minds for nearly seven years!

Never the less, if the movie is a mile, (IMO) where talking about centimeters here! Right?

"Accusation" of making "girlish" faces to Japanese is almost an insult. Bishounen - name says for itself. And the lift - the chara in the movie would look terrible if they made it according to older FMV's. You see him in the movie and there is no doubt it's him. Hair is parted..? And that's... bad? Both Barret and Yuffie are in the new trailer. Read a few posts back, I posted quite a lot of Yuffie images. About gunblades - no thanks, no spoilers. Nomura? That's not the point. I'd rather say that if a person can't understand the changes, means that he didn't understand Nomura nor the character at all.

How is it an insult? I'm simply comparing it to the faces that are in the game leaflet. For example Cid looks awesome and very close to what he would look like, except for maybe him looking younger. :P

Plus, quit it with this Nomura BS. If he really wanted the characters to look as they do now, he would have done different concept images for the game.

"Insult" should also be in brackets. Japanese male ideal is very girlish. Soft details, long hair, almost mistakeable. Plus, I won't. Imagine FF7 SD-style with the current AC character design.

Honestly, I think they just wanted a realistic image. They shortened Cloud's hair because it would be nearly impossible to get natural hair like his. Same with Sephiroth. Those bangs would be as hard to hell to get without a ton of gel (and who wants wet gel running down their face when they're sweating?).

The old one looks like some sort of fashion model really. Yeah, he looks tough, but not creepy. The new one, everything is just more natural and darker. Look at the eyes. The eyes tell it all. I also like how his hair kind of covers his face instead of two giant spikes.

What’s everyone upset about? Complaining about other people's concerns accomplishes nothing. Least PumpkinPieman has the right idea.

I never knew the ideal male in Japanese culture was soft/slender. That does explain a few things about the last few FF games. Regardless of my worries, I'm forced to agree with Bunnie-Maru. If an anime is to be redefined in a much more realistic manner, the more 'extreme features' (like hair styles) will need to be compromised for that realism.

It would also explain why Auron had shaved armpits...

That always freaked me out.

I'm sure they had to make a few compromises, but it still looks like Sephiroth has been without testosterone through his teens.

And thats bad because...?

If this were an action-packed Rambo-esque movie, then yes, it would be a dispointment. But Im not expecting that out of him.

Most girls despise it, so that might be an extra reason for that.
Besides, there are very, very few japanese artists who add it. It just doesn't look good. And again, the no-testosterone is due to the japanese drawings trends. Evil guys should be smooth, girlish, and a little bit feminine - maybe not straight off, but they should have a feel about it around them. Take Kuja for example. Seymour wasn't much far off either. Unless we're talking about shounen mangas. There rugged, big, muscled, grotesque, and usually not-so-very-attractive-rambo-thing is kind of common.

That would also explain why Kuja looked like Prince with a tail.
