Add the command "disable_popup = yes" on your ff7_opengl.cfg. However, hiding the messages isn't going to solve your problems. You shouldn't be getting any messages at all, there's obviously something wrong with your instalation.

I have been having some issues with Aali's custom driver and FF7 remix.  :(
I'm new to the forum and Ive been trying to find info about this issue on the internet but have been unsuccessful.
First I installed FF7 and the 1.02 patch, then remix (not realising that it already contained said patch) and it worked perfectly for a few days (and was awesome!). Then I decided to try playing around with some of the settings in the opengl config file. Being a newbie and not really knowing what i was doing I followed a tutorial i found on youtube (
) after applying the changes I began to get an error message during battle: "GLITCH: Something tried to use hardware accelerated lighting, expect funky-looking models" (I've gathered that this may have something to do with Aeris having just joined my party but at the time I assumed it was because of the changes I had made. Now I'm not sure. :-\)
Changing the settings back in the config file did not solve the problem so i completely uninstalled the game and deleted all the mod files, then reinstalled everything over again and started the game and... black screen... "ff7.exe has stopped working"
I've repeated this process many times over the past few days and all I know is that the game will run fine with the 1.02 patch only, but if I try to use remix or Aali's driver it won't even start up.
I apologize if this is a question that has been answered already but all of my searches have been fruitless, so if it has been answered, at the very least can someone point me in the right direction?
thanks in advance.

check to see if your card support openGL 2.0 or higher. if not turn off shaders on the first line of the config.

The use_shaders option has no meaning if your renderer doesn't support OpenGL 2.0, its only useful to disable shaders when OpenGL 2.0 support IS available.

My card is nVidia GeForce 8600M GT. Should have support for OpenGL 2.0
I turned off shaders, but it had no effect...
And that doesn't explain why it worked perfectly for several days then suddenly just crapped out on me. Clearly it should work (because it did work). But now it wont even run the game at all, even after fully uninstalling and reinstalling everything. That's what's frustrating.
As I mentioned before, it does work with the 1.02 patch but stops working when the OpenGL driver is installed. But just a week ago there was no issue...  The version of the driver included on FF7 remix worked just fine. Now it doesn't...   :-\

Did you run the .reg file and do you have ff7input.cfg in the ff7 directory?

Did you run the .reg file and do you have ff7input.cfg in the ff7 directory?
No... I don't see either in the ff7 directory. I assume they should have been included when I installed the game? I haven't removed anything from the directory.

Not with 0.7.8b you dont. The .reg file was made obsolete by the modified FF7Config.exe and ff7input.cfg was only required for 0.7.7b because of a bug in that specific version.

So I do not need those files? I'll give it a try anyway, because I've just about run out of ideas...
Does anyone have any thoughts on why it would have stopped working, given that I did nothing different on my first install (which did work) from what I've done on any of my subsequent installs (which have not)?

Update: I put ff7input.cfg into the ff7 directory and now I get as far as the opening FMVs (Eidos and Squaresoft logos) but it crashes before it gets to the new game/continue screen. I guess that's sort of an improvement.... :-/
The .reg file I downloaded from the above link appears to be an mp3 file so... idunno.
Thanks again for the suggestions thus far. Hopefully I can get this resolved eventually.

Update 2: I feel STUPID. As it turns out I wasnt using the latest version of the OpenGL driver. I downloaded and installed it and it basically fixed the issue for the most part. The game seems to run now, not perfectly, but the major issue has been fixed.

I am still rather curious what the issue actually was though... I mean when it originally worked I was using the driver included with FF7 remix (not the latest version) so why did that fix it now?
Anyway, thanks for the responses and the help. Much appreciated.

So, at first you were using 0.7.3b, then you installed 0.7.7b which crashes whenever it cant find a file and now you have the latest version which does not have this problem. What a mess.

bug report:

Your latest version seems to have broken Anti Aliasing (that or 32xQ still has a lot of jaggies)

Or the nvidia 256 drivers did.

Hello everyone.  Nice to know people are working on such cool FF7 projects.  I'm not a total noob with game mods, and I've followed all the instructions from a clean install off my original FF7 disc, but I can't seem to get higher resolutions to work on my computer.

I'm using a GeForce 5200 with a 3Ghz P4.  Is that enough to deliver higher res? Or does it not support OpenGL 2?  The App log says OpenGL 2.0 support is detected, but in the config tool, it says the OpenGL render option is "busted".  Not sure if that's a problem or supposed to display that.

Using the "Custom Driver" option, everything runs quickly smoothly in 640x480, in both windowed and full screen mode, no glitches.  But when I go up to 800x600 (or higher) the game boots the EIDOS load screen VERY VERY slowly, like maybe a frame every few seconds.  The music skips, and finally after two minutes or so, I get to the NewGame/Continue screen, and a button press will take me to the save game screen after maybe another minute or two.  Is just the load screen this slow, and a beautiful game awaits me?  I've not had the patience to get to the game screen, but I'm fairly certain it will be just as slow.  Essentially everything "runs" but at unplayable slow speed.

What sort of questions do I need to be asking in order to get it working?

Change to a resolution that is an even multiple of 640x480 like 1280x960 (1280x1024 works too thanks to aspect correction). Anything else will require scaling which is a bit too heavy for your graphics card.

Has anyone been able to get a full screen start menu with the driver?

I followed the instructions on https://www.ff7catalog.com/threads/6076/ but my menu is still small.
You must install Aali's driver and TA patch and then put the image like buster_00.png inside the textures folder. Make sure you don't touch anything from the menu_us.lgp too.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I have the Aali Driver installed but is it possible to still do this without the TA patch by just throwing in the buster_00.png into FF7/texture/WMRP/menu?

I've been trying it with a fresh install and I still get the regular menu. =\

nope, the original game does not look inside of the /textures/ folder at all, in fact it does not even know it exists. Aali had to develop this method so we could properly modify the game, which involves manually editing the TEX files so they point to that directory. If you can get your hands on the TA TEX file for the opening menu, then this could work though.

fyi, this support may possibly be built into the next version of the driver though, which could alleviate may problems such as this.

hmmm, I'm still having a lot of issues trying to get the modpath to work correctly. Placing textures in there seems to have no effect(cache off). Do they need to be in a certain folder structure? I got the WMRP files working, but i cant get the menus from the TA patch working independently.
