Are there currently any features planned, regarding Normal Mapping, Parallax Mapping, Specular Mapping or even Tesselation? It occurred to me, as I have recently seen the new D3D11 renderer for the game Gothic 2. It's made by just one guy and looks really spectacular.

I think the 3D stuff in the game would benefit from that a lot.^^
I think the problem is that the FF7 PC engine mimics the PSX architecture to well and doesn't follow ordinary PC logic. Anyway I would be happy to use Wight painted models (after that normal -, parallax- and specular mapping).

am new to this and i was wondering if  anyone can help me download ff7 or ff8 or both pls  i dont know where to download the games or whats the first step so if anyone can help me and walk me though it that be grate thank u very much  :)

can someone tell me where to download final fantasy7 i dont know where to get it?

Hey guys, whenever I try to start the game I get an error... "OpenGL renderer does not support opengl 2.0.  Your graphics drivers are probably not up to date. shaders are required since version 0.8"

This is all written in the APP log:
[00000000] INFO: FF7/FF8 OpenGL driver version 0.8.1b
[00000000] INFO: Auto-detected version: FF7 1.02 US English
[00000000] INFO: Microsoft Corporation GDI Generic 1.1.0
[00000000] INFO: No OpenGL 2.0 support detected

It worked before but gave me an extreme lag warning...and was extremely laggy with no intro movie or anything other than an intro fight, that i couldn't control.  So i installed the latest custom driver and now it wont' run at all and just closes after the error...

Let me know if you need any more info any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Edit:  My graphics drivers are as up to date as possible...i'm running server 2012

It is not.

INFO: Microsoft Corporation GDI Generic 1.1.0 <-- Means that you don't use the specific driver for your GPU but the generic one from MS. What is you GPU for brand?

It says Microsoft Basic Display Adapter...Hardware : PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E32&SUBSYS_02E11028&REV_03\3&11583659&0&10

Adapter Type   Intel(r)Eaglelake Graphics Chip, (Standard display types) compatible

does that help?

Isn't that an integrated GPU? All I know is that modded FF VII can be unplayable on integrated GPUs.
You may need to upgrade or to buy a dedicated graphics card, or just to update your drivers, I don't know. The goal here is to have support for opengl 2.0 .

Oh, the game can work pretty well on integrated GPUs, but only if OpenGL 2.0 is supported.
Thanks for the correction Kal. My infos are a bit outdated ( like 4 years haha )
Sorry to have mislead.

no such luck...tool says its up to date...anyone know of a driver i could manually access?  if this were an xp or vista machine i've seen some updates...but for some reason only server 2012 worked... i'd really appreciate any assistance, and thanks for all of your help so far!

It is hard to know what gpu you have exactly. Google the MS driver ID and it will tell you that it might be a G41 express chipset:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/de/product/81517/Intel-G41-Express-Chipsatz

I don't know if it will help you. My question is why server 2012 and not win7 (because it seems there is no driver for server 2012)?
Well it should at last be power full enough to play the game.
... The chipset also delivers optimized 3D graphics
performance and support for Microsoft DirectX* 10, Shader
Model* 4.0 and OpenGL* 2.0.

no luck... for some reason win 7 wouldnt install :( so I had to go with 2012. i wish there was a workaround... the mods applied, but after updating the aali driver it wont run at all... perhaps a downgrade in drivers? do u have a previous aali that wont require opengl 2.0?

You can still go with 0.7.11. A few mods won't work and you need FF7music but to play the game it will be enough.

runs now, but i get the extreme lag error, intro movie doesn't play, and the cursor is constantly moving upwards... also no music :(

where can i go from here? it loads, with sound effects, but i see nothing until the fight starts, and i have no control, cursor is constantly moving up

Hello everyone, nice to meet you all! =)

I have a simple question regarding this driver.
Shouldnt it enable a higher resolution or wider screen?

After stumbling upon this forum, i have spent the last few days trying to install my old ff8 version for pc. Now it finally works! But the launcher i found on here, doesnt like the Battle Hardcore Patch, which is the sole reason for me wanting to reinstall in the first place.
So now i am left with everything running and working as i wanted to, everything besides the game still being run in that tiny tiny window. Needless to say, i have tried and fiddled a lot with the opengl file, but nothing changed the size.

If i posted in the wrong thread, please excuse me. My brain is just out of order atm.. xD

Edit:

Nevermind, sorry.
After a short nap i tried another google session to find a fix.
The problem was that the ff8.exe was on compability mode, but the ff8config wasnt.
Turning it off on the ff8.exe file, fixed the screen-size issue.
