FFVII HIGH QUALITY CG COLLECTION
This is a big one. Square didn't save any of the production materials for FF7, so all re-releases including the PC version have been at the PS1's native resolution of 320 X 224

However......at the time of the game's release, Toshiba was preparing the world's first computer DVD drive and needed something to show it off. Square printed 500 copies of a DVD containing every cinema scene in FF7. These are 30 frames a second at 720 X 540 -- a vast improvement

The biggest boon to this find is finally being able to read the words on Jenova's helmet. As you can see, it's not something they meant for us to read. Unless Jenova really did come from Hong Kong

As you might have anticipated, this disc isn't cheap

eBay Price: $1,499.95

More comparison screens:

Loveless Square
Shinra Motorcycle Room
Gold Saucer

as it seems it is still findable at fleebay...

Unfortunately my wallet doesn't go that deep, but I would love to get my hands on that object...

Does anybody here by any chance has such a disc..?

 8-)

Hopefully he will accept my deal.  Can't see it, but never know ;)  I was hoping kinda that these wouldnt surface so I wouldnt have to redo them again, but if I get them, I will redo them.

asa does the black chocobo, makou reactor and hyne japanese translations. perhaps he can help you seams to be pretty active on the forum

How the hell are we just finding out about this now?
I know, I find it very strange that there were 500 copies of this floating about and it's never been documented or mentioned anywhere. The sheer volume of FFVII freaks on this forum (myself included) and no one had a clue as far as we know. Seems a bit odd!

Wow, we need this.  I'm of the belief it should be openly distributed for the betterment of mankind

I agree. Maybe we should collectively bid to have him rip it for us! Or whoever buys it lol.

Holy crud I am tempted beyond belief. Even if I did get it though for that much I'd turn into a Gullum (however spelled, LOTR). And even then what would I get, since all I'd want to do is spread the resource to anyone that wants to high definition the game.......Between this Cd, saving, and a new gaming computer is where my xmas money is in a struggle. I'd happily buy it if other members would paypal donate some of the money back over time. I could by it in the next couple of days if anyone is interested in splitting the cost at least in thirds (so about $500 apiece)

EDIT: Dearlord, if I had the money I'd be buying up half of that things you cant ever have list. Especially imagine if I got hold of that playstation development kit for 65,0000$. Worth a few cars, but I would buy it. Also the light up nintendo sign and Final Fantasy Orb. 188 Sealed PS1 Games (only retro system I have and on it's last leg of having the power cable being held at a certain angle to make it play) DEAR LORD THE CHRONO CROSS DESK CLOCK!!! I WANT!!! YESS!! I'm ordering it! $25
Also Nintendo German Beer mug! Haha!
90's LARA CROFT MANNEQUIN
Life sized LINK!!!

...I need a winning lottery ticket and a bigger geek pad.

...Now kicking myself in the balls for cutting a promotional game box for Starcraft II into poster size...could've sold that in 10 years... maybe.

Nowhere in the original listing does it say that it contains *all* the FMVs.. the table of contents lists 18 clips when in fact there are more than 100 total.

You would think Square would have bullied someone into sending them a copy for the PC version if it was actually useful.

Yeah, 14 minutes of clips just doesn't sound right. Damn! I mean, having those 18 clips would be awsome. But not for $1500. So that is off my list to buy.

There are no information about FFVII HIGH QUALITY CG COLLECTION on Japanese webesite.

Here's some old press releases

250,000 yen in 1998 was around $1,800, adjusted for inflation means around $2,400 in today's money, according to wikipedia the average pc price was under $1,000 in 1998, so $1,800 for a PC with one of the first DVD drives doesn't seem like so bad of a deal all in all, I'm guessing a lot more than 500 were produced.

Nor, for that matter, does the listing explicitly say they're full FMVs. And reading the listings, it looks like most of the movies are pretty trivial - things like the Gold Saucer tram ride, or the opening Midgar shot.

If we wanted high quality videos, we'd have to either have to spend a lot of time on post-processing tricks (which are limited in scope), or redo the vids from scratch (which would be... well, difficult).

If they are full (and I think they are by time), some of those are good.  The weapon ones are my favourite and the sephiroth jenova sequence is important (the helmet is shown and so that FMV must have got to the end).

I still think it is quite funny that even after years of hundreds of fans research, we still managed to discover something new.
