The movies and the voices are duplicated, so there's one for English and one for Japanese. They could have just let you download the English one and get the Japanese one as a free DLC, but no...

Deleting the Japanese FMV's would save 19.8 GB.
Good to know thanks man. That's an easy 20 GB I can free up. Agreed, this really should have been a dlc option.

Well, I, should I be getting the game, will use the Japanese voices and videos with English subtitles, since the voices are always better (I mean, look at Type-0, the English voices are beyond awfulness).

...the ".bin" extension doesn't really say much.
.bin is possibly the second least descriptive extension (no extension being the least). By nature, all files are binary files and could be titled as such.

True in so many cases, but I think the FF13 series breaks that mold. The English voice acting is pretty good.

Well it wasn't too bad I guess. I haven't heard the Jap so can't compare.

Square must be embarrassed by this. They've removed all twitter, facebook and blog posts about it, almost like it doesn't exist.

On the dub vs original voices thing
It's more relevant to the KH franchise but FF, especially 12, had some dub-over-original voice acting too
Of course there is usually at least 1-2 voices in either language that annoy the fuck out of you

It actually doesn't seem too bad all in all. I'm annoyed the install size is so massive, and nothing for the Japanese videos are labeled so removing them will be difficult, but otherwise it looks pretty good. Granted this is with the downsampling and custom resolution settings with the GeDoSaTo modding tool. People have mentioned issues with the controls but they must mostly be with the pc controls, controllers works just fine. To exit the game you have to go to the main menu and hit esc on the keyboard however, but otherwise I haven't found any issues. The game supposedly runs at 60 fps, but it seems closer to it's original 30 fps from the consoles. It runs smoothly though so I don't really care, and I have a few ideas to boost the frame rate a bit more anyway. This was just a technical test, I skipped all the videos and everything and went straight to the opening fights and ran around the first level a bit. Otherwise I haven't played the game so I cant say much about the dub or anything.

Halfway through the game right now. Haven't seen anything gamebreaking and works fine for me out of the box. Used GeDoSaTo for higher resolution because it looks better but it wasn't bad to start with. The download size wasn't a problem for me either, Steam gave a solid 22,5 MB/s, took about 40 minutes.

I did however get a few fps drops at the weirdest moments (i.e. nothing happening, only very little to render), none of my hardware seems to be under any load at that time either, so I think it's a "port thing".

This is on a 4770K with a R9 290 btw.

Also I only play with xbox360 wireless controller on a projector. :P

Remember when I said you could delete the Japanese FMVs? You can't, they will automatically re download when you launch the game.

Finally got it. There's an unpacker and repacker just been released.

So far from what I've seen:

Audio is now in .OGG format, as opposed to LAME MP3.

Model and animation format has been altered slightly.

Models and textures can be swapped, however they will be deformed due to bone differences

Models from other versions can't be used due to format changes.

There's a file called charaspec.wdb that lists all the character IDs. Managed to get Lebreau loaded over Lightning. With it came all of Lebreau's programming.

I found the game slightly better if I turned off the minimap and avoided as many battles as possible. To avoid those battles is a mini-game in itself. Also with Japanese audio, the confusing, non-expositional story is not that remarkable. It just turns into another crazy anime, which I guess it tried to be in the 1st place (kinda).

So I see modding is already possible. This makes it slightly more likely for me to buy it... when it gets better :P

I'm buying the whole trilogy when it comes with a nice package bargain ;)
