*sigh* As usual the people in charge of the English voice actors quality control in video games are absolutely incompetent :c

If anyone here has access, they should inform square to add a toggle-able option of the western release to switch between English and Japanese voice actors, or at the very least add a PC port with those options

Ironically I am a professional actor and could easily do better voices than those (although my voice is not low enough for those characters) and all they have to do is come get me at my desk—I work right there in their own building.

I don’t know what you mean by “access”, but I can assure you it will do no good.
I am in a senior position working as a programmer on this game, but even so nothing I could say would matters because:
#1: Japanese culture.  Game development and movie making are the same in Japan—everything is strictly hierarchical and no one dares question the boss, and the boss never listens to outside influences.  This is why Japanese TV is so bad compared with American TV—in Japan the whole show/movie is just one guy’s idea whereas in America everyone is bouncing ideas off each other and picking the best from the whole group.  Even though Square Enix is less culturally Japanese than some companies, the main people in charge of projects prefer to work this way.
#2: The bottom line is money, and if it does not make sense financially to have both languages on a single disc they simply won’t do it.

Spiro try to leak some news :P
How about this?
Newsflash: I have seen private videos we use at our internal meetings etc. and now I want to play the final game even more.

Hmm, well that certainly explains why XIII had very dull gameplay, it's always important in game development that everyones ideas get brought up in my opinion, the end product always ends up better.
I have faith in Hajime Tabata's skills as a director though, after all he did do Crisis Core and Type-0.

The thing I don't understand with the people in charge of organising english voice actors,
is they always seem to go for expensive famous voices and think that's what we want.
Certainly sometimes the actors are good, but most of the times the actors are extremely bad and it makes us want to hate the characters alot of the time, unfortunately most people I know who have seen this recent video of english Dubs already hate Prompto because his voice irritated them,
where as with the japanese actors they thought he was really baddass

I guess i'll probably wait a couple years and see if they bring it to PC, because i don't feel like paying $600+ NZD for a PS4 to play one game especially when the voice actors are bad and being console it is a mission to mod the disc to replace english dubs with the japanese originals

Thanks for keeping us informed by the way, it's nice that there is someone in a senior position who is communicating with the mod community here on qhimm   ;D

#1 is why people who know this culture hear a certain name working for a Japanese game and talk of either excitement or despair for the game.

#2 is why some names who start well can end up turning to crap. Ideas that spawn money well for Japanese culture don't necessarily do well in Western cultures because the ability to adapt to new ideas given by others after initial success aren't cared for as much.

You couldn't pay me to buy this game without me doing a ton of research beforehand (including watching actual in-game footage for a couple of hours).  After X-2, 12, 13, lightning returns, 14...  and the FF7 spin offs, I have absolutely 0 faith in Squenix to deliver something I like.  Zero.  I'll be surprised if 15 holds up to pre X-2 era, but I guess we'll see.  :)  I'm more confident that this will be another graphic infused dog shit.  High on visuals, low on design, story and intellect.

It should be interesting to see what they come up with nonetheless.  They may even prove me wrong.  Let's hope so.

To be honest, I never even bothered to play X-2.
I was too disappointed that they tried to milk X further after it was such a masterpiece with one of the most dramatic and satisfying endings within the series.
and they turned Yuna from the shy cute summoner we loved into some sexy gunslinger. Killed it for me to be honest.

I do agree with DLPB that with Squares recent trends, I am concerned that this will be a pretty game with nothing below the surface,
from what I have seen from the gameplay footage,
it would appear the gameplay system is the same as XIII just more polished and refined.

I agree on all those games taking my faith away except for 14, if you're including 14:ARR. I think they did a decent job by starting over from scratch and producing something worthy of an MMO. It's an MMO though, so it's the genre itself that eventually makes the game feel stale.

The fact they had to start over is unforgivable to begin with.  A company that size making that kind of error is unbelievable.

Yeah, ARR is pretty much a completely different game, made by a largely different team. You've gotta give the new team props though, they didn't fuck it up.

The guy in the video is from a country.
