The reason there's a basic logo, is because the flag is the original Avalanche logo in the game. So it is just another way TA wants to show that they stick to the original  :D
 
Personally I like pyrozen's last one best, it could easily go anywhere, since it isn't restricted to going where there is a square edge. Also love that you have the 'T' in the centre of the 'A', excellent idea.

I think I might do one of these with that pink graffiti you see on the wall in Wall Market; although I'd spell AVALANCHE properly :)

I don't mind if someone wants to beat me to it, either :)

You can see where the terrible editing is here lol, I've just coloured over the edges where I didn't want that grainy effect(for a bit of texture on the flag).

Well if it's to be a flag how bout modelling it after a traditional pirate jolly Roger flag?  Only in the sense that the skull should be centered rather than stretched and it should be white on black rather than white on red.

here's another one with some of the suggestions SL noted. Not really sure how much more i can do with this particular design, so if this one doesn't work out then im gonna go in a completely different direction.

I like that design a lot I have to say, but the rounded logo version above :)
 
Looks good pyrozen, can you maybe take that image and make it more like the other one without the square background. Would look better in the corner of the title screen I think.

i actually think it looks pretty cool! Id up the contrast on the flag to get closer to a blood red color, but overall i like it.

I went to the trouble of creating small avatars for any TA members who wish to use them. They aren't the prettiest, but i seriously suck and making images below 100x100 AND less than 10kb.

just right-click and steal the link info and place it into your profile. Though if too many people use them they will have to be moved to a server instead of photobucket

As in anyone not a main part of the team? Graphic designers and such?

Also, pyrozen, not sure if you noticed but your top right bone has the shadow over-hanging the edge of the frame, just saying :).

damnit! i couldn't see that on my laptop monitor, but its clear as day on my large LCD. I'll fix it later and re upload.
 
What about taking out the background entirely, and just using the skull against the title screen's black background?

however, you will lose the drop shadow on a black background, so if it is still desired i would have to change the color and it would be more of a glow effect rather than a shadow. Lemme know if this is what is desired.

I think the drop shadow is a must, Maybe have a red circle around it? that was the edges don't end abruptly
 
Have you tried removing each effect, one at a time, to see what they do for the picture?

For example, I can see that the stroke seems like it's more prominent than the drop shadow, so if you remove the stroke, the drop will look odd, but removing the drop won't really have that much of an effect on the *pop* of the skull...if any of that makes sense :)
