What purpose of Weapons in FF7?

i know it a Materia Storm. but besides, i have Yuffies equiped with Cover materia and 13 counter attack materia.it work well against Emerald with Yuffie's attacks
 
imo weapon created because of crater impact (not from outerspace) but like a precaution from someone trying to summon anothe rmeteor or something like that?

i fully doubt Weapons can stand against Meteor, one only thing that can stand against it is Lifestream

liek Aeris said, to summon a Meteor by using a black materia, you must have a special spiritual thing to summon it, so Sephy have that spiritual thing and he can summon it, but Weapons cant stop sephy cuz sephy is too powerful for them
 
i somehow dont see the logic in that. if lil old cloud and his posse can kill seph, i dont see him being a challange for the weapons. maybe they just didnt look for him properly, or wanted to stretch their legs a bit after such a long sleep before work?

i wouldnt say they "whooped" the weapons, 2 of them put up a fairly admirable (and long winded) struggle. and one of those two beat my team more than just a few times (emerald). since emerald is immune to just about everything and is tough as nails... ruby you just cast hades to make it stop and your already on a winner. id say that ruby and emerald are both easily capable of taking down seph.

i should not say that Sephy is powerful than the weapons. but he will be most likey to get his mother, Jenova to whoop the weapon metal butt
 
I killed sephiroth nearly as fast as i did the first boss of the game. Course i was at highest level and had already beaten Emerald and Ruby weapon.

same me, i killed Utlima, Ruby and Emerald. and easily beat Safer Sephy in few KOTR
 
If one is able to beat all Weapons, then Sephiroth does not pose a threat at all, that's pretty logical. Actually the only thing I found irritating about Seph was his Supernova Summon, that's about all.

My theory fits well, enough....

The Weapons are there to destroy all life on the planet....and turn it into lifesteam, for the planet.

It's a last resort of the Planet's defensive system. The concentrate of Lifestream would make the Planet stronger giving it a fighting chance against, Jenova.

Being that the planet withered all plant life for it's energy, the next step would be to take Life Energy from somewhere else. Something that it couldn't effect directly.... Such as living things..... Man.

I got that conclusion from what is said in those tapes in that Icicle Village. But get what you want out of it.  All I can say is that it fits. But it's all speculative.

Gast:
"Do the Ancients, rather, the Cetra, have special powers to heal the Planet?"

Ifalna:
"No, it's not that kind of power. The life force of all living things on this Planet becomes the energy. The Cetra tried desperately to cultivate the land so as not to diminish the needed energy..."

"Yes, the energy that was needed to heal the Planet withered away the land... then the Planet... The Planet tried to persuade the Cetra to leave the Knowlespole, but..."

"Back then, Weapon was a weapon the Planet produced of its own will?"

Ifalna:  
"Yes, but... There is no record of Weapon ever being used.  A small number of the surviving Cetra defeated Jenova, and confined it. The Planet produced Weapon... But it was no longer necessary to use it."

Gast:  
"So, Weapon no longer exists on the Planet?"

Ifalna:
"Weapon cannot vanish. ...It remains asleep somewhere on the planet. Even though Jenova is confined, it could come back to life at some time... The Planet has not fully healed itself yet. It is still watching Jenova."

Gast:
"Where is Weapon?"

Ifalna:
"I don't know...... I can't hear the voice of the Planet well... Times... have changed. The Planet... is probably watching this situation closely."
