Here's my odd idea!

Despite my previous posts, I think the whole idea is somewhat ridiculous. Sure,  it's nice to fantasize about the character's voices, but seriously..why bother having the whole script read by actors? Don't people still know how to read? I seriously miss the SNES rpg days. 2-D sprites, no voice acting. Those were the days... *reminisces briefly*

It's pretty cool that games and graphics have advanced to the point where everything can be voiced, but I don't think the older final fantasies would be much better with voices. You probably wouldn't get much of an effect from the script if voices were reading it. You might even get less out of the script.

My favorite kind of game is definately the 2D RPG.  Specifically, SNES-type ones.  Hardly ever get the chance to play new ones, but with GBA I got to play Golden Sun, and there are some more RPGs coming out for it.

I'm also playing FF1 for the NES for the first time :P  and I plan to play through FF2 and FF3 after it.

No kidding.  I just recently started playing the SNES game "Terranigma" (by the company Enix), and my jaw has dropped repeadidly at the music and many of the visuals.  That mode 7 effect they use for the map screen in the first part of the game (where you have to go to the 5 towers) is just sweet.

And the music?  Well, don't tell me that you can't mistake the theme for the town of Crysta for something you'd hear in a PSX game, I mean the samples they used are excellent.

Of course, maybe the fact that I'm playing it in an emulator (I'm using SNES9x, for those of you who are curious) is to account for the quality of the graphics and music, since its doing Bilinear filtering on the image output, but I've kept the music playback rate as close to the real SNES output as possible (read:set to 24khz since I can't pick the true SNES output setting of 23900hz) so I'm not currently hearing it at CD quality.

I think the best thing in the world would be a game almost exactly like FF7, only with FFX's graphics. (Or better. I remember when I was saying I wanted FF7 with FF8's graphics...)

Oh! And tt would HAVE to be a PC only game. Probably on DVD-ROM...

Wow....that's cute!
I wish i could play it
*is a sucker for low rez 8 bit graphics*
Ooohhh...does it beep the music too?

Unfortunately... no music. It'd be great if there was. I can just see the looks on peoples faces watching me play FF7:CQ on a graphics calculator... Even better! I'll actually do it!

I have an xbox, and ive thought of games that should be ported to it...
i think its a good idea, but square i think is siding with ps2
also, theres a rumor going around that square is remaking ff7 for ps2, is that true?
wait....crap on that...
square should remake ff7 for xbox and pc, and make the old one for gba...

>I have an xbox, and ive thought of games that should be ported to it...

Japanese developers dislike the X-Box because it's not japanese (as a whole)

>i think its a good idea, but square i think is siding with ps2

I think it's more to do with Square being part owned by Sony. Square are making a couple of games for the GC, but that's via another company they set up.

>also, theres a rumor going around that square is remaking ff7 for ps2, is that true?

No. Square did have plans to remake FF 7-9 on the PS2, but after the failure of FF:The Spirits Within at the box office, the idea was put on indefinate hold.

>square should remake ff7 for xbox and pc, and make the old one for gba...

Not gonna happen. I think Square are gonna steer clear of the PC for the most part owing to FF7&8's relative boming on the platform.

I'm sorry but i thought that movie just pretty much sucked.. I love final fantasy.. but i think that movie was pretty stale.. but we already had a post about the movie somewhere .. sometime.. i believe i already said that..

>I'm sorry but i thought that movie just pretty much sucked.. I love final fantasy.. but i think that movie was pretty stale.. but we already had a post about the movie somewhere .. sometime.. i believe i already said that..

I think the problem with the movie was that it was too short, so it seemed very rushed. There was a lot going on in that movie if you paid atention.... or you watched it 2 or 3 times.

I think the problem with the movie is it wasnt enough "Final Fantasy" for all the fanboys. If they just dropped the "Final Fantasy" title i'm sure it would have done MUCH better since people wouldn't have gone in expecting to see Sephiroth on the big screen.Though Sephiroth on the big screen is a drool worthy event....

Actually, I always thought it was the other way, it was too much Final Fantasy. They tried to fit a FF story into a two-hour movie, and there's just no way you can appreciate a story like that if told in such a short span. Had the movie been a game, it would have had greater potential.

well maybe sucked was a bit harsh.. when i saw it in theatres i was disappointed.. i could watch it again on DVD... It just felt like it was missing something.. and Qhimm excellent point.. i really hadnt thought of that.. as a game that might have been something.. but now i even forget the plot of the movie.. or well.. most of it.

ok, i have never seen the movie yet, so i cant respond on that.
but just clear this up for me.
i found this on the net today, and i dont know where else to put it...
its a guy (or people) porting ff7 to segasaturn
does anyone have anymore info on this?

http://www.geocities.com/sectanime/

It looks like a big bunch of crap

Here... Apparently the guy shut his old site down so he could continue his work or something but the site your redirected to doesnt seem to speak highly of him..

This is from the redirected site..
Now before you go off saying, 'oh the fake liar's back', I am not the so called 'Saturn Programmer' who once called himself/herself 'Saturn Utena'.  I am a new programmer and I have decided to take over his, ahem, work, which comprises of a load broken promises (sadly, he gave me all his, err, theory, which was just a load of stuff straight from the Sega manual on Saturn programming).

Okay, now that's over with, hello, my name is Saturn Utena and welcome to 'Saturn Revolution' a site that at the moment, will translate games from one language to another, please check the news section and the up coming projects for more news on current games.

Why would you want to port ff7? Buy a damn playstation! they are only $50 cheaper probably in pawn shops.. buy a copy of FF7 for PS $14.99 in retail stores because it was a greatest hits title.. What is the big point of porting it over?
